CHEVALIER NOIR ACADEMY SUMMER CHESS PROGRAM -

Young Beginners:
WHO: Ages 5 and 6
WHEN: June 16-20, 2008
TIME: 1:00-2:00 PM

The very early beginner with no knowledge of the game can come
and be introduced to the fascinating game of chess! Names of the
pieces, how they move, and simple tactics will be presented in
this week long introductory class.
Beginner 1:
WHO: Ages 7 and above
WHEN: June 16-27, 2008 (Monday-Friday)
TIME: 2:30-3:30 PM
COST: $50.00
The perfect opportunity to learn a game that will last a lifetime!
No experience or knowledge of the game required for participation.
Students will learn the names and movements of the pieces, check
and checkmate and how to achieve both, basic tactics and strategy,
and other information needed to navigate the basic levels of play.
Class limited to 14.
Intermediate I:
WHO: Ages 7 and above
WHEN: July 21-25, 2008
TIME: 1:00-2:3 0PM
COST: $45.00
This class is for the student who has played for at least one
year and would like to add depth to their game. Various checkmates,
tactics, openings, notation and clock play will be introduced.
Students who participate can expect to add more strategy and meaning
to their play.
Intermediate II:
WHO: Ages 8 and above with experience
WHEN: August 11-15, 2008
TIME: 3:00-4:30 PM
COST: $45.00
This class is intended for the experienced chess player that
has played competitively for at least one year. Students will
add to their repertoire of openings, be introduced to some middle
game strategies, and a smattering of critical endgame studies.
Advanced:
WHO: Experienced tournament players only
WHEN: August 11-15, 2008
TIME: 2:30-4:30 PM
COST: $70.00
This class is only for the advanced player who has tournament
experience and a rating of at least 1200. Advanced class will
examine fundamental endgame situations with an emphasis on obtaining
thematic knowledge. Players can expect to leave the class confident
as to how to proceed in any endgame position.
CLASS MAXIMUM: Classes will be limited to a maximum
of ten players per session.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Registration must be completed
two weeks before the first day of class.
